Dolcetto d'Alba DOC Pian Balbo

Dolcetto d'Alba DOC Pian Balbo

Cascine Drago

An instant and friendly wine: great vinosity, fruity flavours and fine tannins, it is the perfect match for all dishes because it is pleasant and straightforward.

Just as its name suggests, the vineyard is located on a summit: the name Dolcetto, in fact, comes from ‘Dosso’ because this grape grows in dry and windy places, that is, on the tops of hills… the dosso! Dossetto, meaning the ‘dosso’ grape, then became Dolcetto.

What happened to Dolcetto?

In Langhe today, it is rare to find Dolcetto in a single plot, much more frequently it is spread across the less favourable areas of vineyards cultivated with other, more profitable varieties. Our Dolcetto has been growing in the same place since 1969, years in which Dolcetto was the main grape for the survival of a winery. Seen as a cru, the Pian Balbo vineyard perfectly expresses the features of Dolcetto di Langa.
